This landmark special is a lush and intimate show, shot in High Definition at the Fallsview Plaza Hotel, just minutes from the Peace Bridge (which was partially the inspiration for the special) between the U.S. and Canada at Niagara Falls. Beautiful World will celebrate how music connects us and brings us all together.

This special taping with many friends will be aired on PBS stations across the country. A theme of friendship, healing and bridging cultures; a collection of quintessential Jim Brickman songs that marry gorgeous piano music with crossover classical. This is approachable, irresistible music with connections to classical (á la Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman), Celtic and Latin music. Alongside this DVD special, other items to follow include a book and CD combo.

To complement the special, Jim will conduct a 100 city tour: 50 cities this fall, and 50 more cities in Spring ’10. One of the most tireless entertainers around, Jim will be making special station appearances whenever possible and, of course, will provide a pledge event for those markets he cannot get to personally.

Twitter has become one of the hottest online tools for social networking. But what exactly is behind the buzz and how can you use Twitter to build and expand your community? In this newsletter, we will help you to understand what Twitter is, and how you may be able to make it a useful tool in your arsenal for building and maintaining contact with your online community.

What is Twitter?

According to Wikipedia.com: Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users' updates, also known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (aka. followers). Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow anybody to access them. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS or Text Messages) or applications such as Tweetie, Twitterrific, Twitterfon, TweetDeck and feedalizr. The service is free to use over the Internet, but using SMS may incur fees specific to wireless providers and services.

A February 2009 Compete.com blog entry ranks Twitter as the third most used social network (Facebook being the largest, followed by MySpace), which puts the number of unique monthly visitors at roughly 6 million and the number of monthly visits at 55 million. In March 2009, a Nielsen.com blog ranked Twitter as the fastest growing site in the Member Communities category for February 2009 with an over all growth of 1382%.

How Do I Build a Community on Twitter?

Content is the key to building any online community, and Twitter is no different. One of the best articles I have read about how to build a Twitter community is found on Mashable.com; written by the director of communications at Elgin Community College and author of a PR and Social Media blog, Sarah Evans. She gives 10 tips on how to effectively start and build your own Twitter community. Click here to view this helpful article now!

Learning to use Twitter effectively may seem like a great task, but just like most things in life, it becomes easier with familiarity and practice. So, the best way to learn is to just dive right in and give it a shot! You may find that you develop your own voice and personal style more quickly and easily than you had expected. Using Twitter to help grow your brand and community can be very beneficial, so start to plant your Twitter seeds now and see what sort of benefits it has in store for you. I look forward to learning with you, and you can check out our Twitter at www.twitter.com/michaelbrickman.

Enjoy the Ride!
Michael

Every now and then there is an item in the press that really makes you stop and think. A recent article featured in Billboard.biz highlighting a new study from Nielsen showed an amazing milestone in the way consumers behave online.  Among the findings were:

- Active reach, in what Nielsen defines as "member communicates," now exceeds email participation by 67 percent to 65 percent.

- The reach of social networking and blogging venues is growing at twice the rate of other large
drivers such as portals, email and search.

- Nielsen found that two-thirds of the world's Internet users visited a social networking site in 2008. All told, social media now accounts for almost 10 percent of the time people spend on the Internet.

- Facebook is leading the pack worldwide, with monthly visits by three out of ten Internet users.
Facebook's greatest growth has come from 35-49 year-olds and it has added twice as many 50-64 year-olds as those under age 18.

What do these findings mean for you?  Well...it depends.  While more users are flocking to social networking sites, it doesn't necessarily mean traditional websites are becoming obsolete.  Rather, it means an aggressive social networking strategy can potentially increase traffic to your website and expand your audiences.  Social networking sites can be a great way to increase your audience and are another outlet where you can reach fans who you otherwise might not have been able to connect with online.  The growth in social networks is a great opportunity for expansion if you have the right strategy.

One thing is certain - the times, they are a changin'.  Enjoy the ride!

Best,
Michael
