It is a new year and time for a fresh start. 2008 was an "interesting" year and one we won't soon forget. But now its time to wipe the slate clean. Here are some ideas that may help you in growing your business in the year ahead.
1. Have Some Fun - in difficult times, there is tendency to be a glum Gus. Do the opposite. Have some fun. A smile is a great way to get people feeling positive and buying more. Inject fun into your brand, your communications and how you work with people. Enthusiasm is the real key to success.
2. Social Media - there are a lot of exciting things happening on social media networks. Best of all, its free to use. If you haven't done so already, set up a Facebook account. On Facebook, post to "what are you doing now" as well as "share a link" section. This way you can share your email newsletters and website with your friends online and grow your network. Its a great way to share your message at a very low cost.
3. Work on Your List - most businesses have lists scattered all over the place. Take some time out to update your contacts, friends and fans. Work on growing your list. Sales is a numbers game. The more people on your list, the more you will sell.
4. Ask Your Best Customers - one great way to engage people is to ask their opinion. Surveying your best customers can be a great way to generate new ideas and show how important your customer are to you. Everyone likes to be asked for their opinion. With online survey tools its easy and cost effective.
5. Collaborate - chances are there are a lot of people and businesses out there just like you. Why not collaborate with them and see if you can work together for everyone's benefit? Sharing ideas with people outside your own office can be a great way to learn and grow.
6. Get Creative - the new year is a great time to come out with a fresh look. This can be as simple as changing your email signature, updating a old email newsletter design or coming up with a new campaign. Get creative and get fresh. People like new. Use that your advantage.
7. Use PR - public relations is often referred to as free advertising. With the web, there are more and more ways to get your message out. Check out PR Log or The Open Press. If you have a budget, PR Newswire or MarketWire can be useful tools to spread the word.
I hope this gives you some ideas to grow your business in 2009 Let's collaborate, get creative and have a great 2009!
