Logos are important, they are the visual representation of your company.  An effective logo should be easily recognizable at a glance. For some people graphic designers are like plumbers; they think the services cost too much for something that seems simple enough . The reality is that many that have tried to fix a major plumbing problem without professional assistance have often cost themselves far more than they saved. An improperly installed pipe can cost in expensive repairs, a bad logo will cost a company potential business.

A poorly designed logo for many potential customers can be a scarlet letter. Generally speaking, a good business doesn't need a great logo, but all great businesses have one. It doesn't have to be fancy or complicated, it just has to work as a representation of your company.

If you have a great business that needs a logo to match, here are  a few simple things to remember:

1. From business cards to billboards your logo should work visually.  Sometimes people have really cool logos that look great centered on a 8.5" x11" sheet of paper.  That same logo might not look too hot on a business card.

2. Keep it simple should be the motto, think Coca Cola, Apple Computers, and Nike.

3. Look around at similar businesses and make a note of their logo.  The competition might provide a nice track to follow, or a good mold to break.
